Lead Consultant, Market Design & FERC Regulatory Strategy

Daymark Energy Advisors is seeking an experienced Lead Consultant with deep expertise in electricity market design and FERC regulatory frameworks, and analysis of energy, ancillary service, and capacity structures. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and technical leader who can guide clients through complex market reforms, offer market design alternatives, and engage in regulatory proceedings.

The Lead Consultant will lead high-impact engagements on behalf of market participants, regulators, utilities, and developers, providing actionable insights regarding market design, FERC policy, and transmission economics.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead advisory projects on RTO/ISO wholesale market design (e.g., the design and implementation of capacity accreditation and resource adequacy approaches, energy and ancillary services products)
  • Provide expert guidance on FERC Orders (e.g., 1000, 2222, 2023) and their implications for market participants
  • Develop and oversee modeling frameworks for auction design, price forecasting, and reliability analysis
  • Advise and represent clients in stakeholder processes, regulatory filings with expert testimony, and technical workshops
  • Work with cross-functional teams on integrated transmission, regulatory, market projects
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to internal knowledge development
  • Develop business and market the company’s services

 

Experience:

  • Experience working with or within FERC, ISO/RTOs, or major utilities
  • Thought leadership in market reform (e.g., expert testimony, published papers, conference presentations)
  • Ability to manage client relationships and develop new business opportunities
  • Interest in international market structures (UK REMA, AEMO reforms, EU capacity markets) is a plus

 

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in electricity market design, regulatory economics, or system planning
  • Deep familiarity with FERC regulations, ISO/RTO market structures, and federal/state policy landscapes
  • Proven track record of leading complex consulting engagements or regulatory or market design initiatives
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to translate technical insights into strategic recommendations
  • Degree in economics, engineering, public policy, or related field
