We seek an exceptional consultant or senior consultant candidate with expertise in power market modeling, zonal and/or nodal simulation, and forecasting to join our team. Responsibilities:

  • Perform power market model-based price forecasts and analyses of the evolving power system landscape using the PLEXOS software by Energy Exemplar in both zonal and nodal configurations, based on solid fundamental understanding of power markets and modeling best practices. For example, recent projects have included:

    • Assessing the LMP impacts of integrating large amounts of renewable resources

    • Assessing impacts of adding carbon charges on market performance, production costs, and emissions

    • Assessing risks/benefits of congestion and curtailment on proposed system enhancements including generators and transmission upgrades

  • Lead, supervise, and support teams in market research, data acquisition, data reporting, and visual graphics creation, primarily using Excel and scripting.

  • Identify impactful work initiatives and take responsibility to usher them to completion in an effective manner, engaging with clients and project teams, as appropriate.

  • Provide analysis and expertise to enhance the firm’s market analytics and consulting activities.

  • Maintain and improve energy market and power system databases.

  • Consider and/or develop methodologies for proprietary models for use in providing power market-related services to clients. ​​​

 

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate for this position will have:

  • A degree in mathematics, economics, engineering (electrical preferred), or similar quantitative field.
  • A master’s degree in mathematics, economics, engineering, or similar quantitative field is preferred.
  • Three to 10 years’ professional experience operating nodal market simulation models in industry recognized products such as PLEXOS, ProMod, EnCompass. Candidates with prior PLEXOS experience are preferred.
  • Prior consulting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage and lead small teams of analysts to execute deliverables.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team to develop and rapidly iterate on technical views to incorporate feedback from internal and external parties.
  • Ability to advance new technical solutions (e.g. model improvements, analytics) with limited guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience, via current or past work experience, in one or more North American power market (e.g. ERCOT, ISO New England, NYISO).
  • Advanced Excel skills. Demonstrated ability to work in Python or R is preferred.
  • Strong English and communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with clients and team members and to deliver analysis and advice.
  • An overriding curiosity and desire to help others succeed in a team environment.
